The new Star Wars Rogue One mural in Nuneaton has been approved by Gareth Edwards

Stunning new street art in Nuneaton which pays homage to Star Wars Rogue One has been given the seal of approval by the man who directed it. Gareth Edwards saw the incredible mural as it was being created in Nuneaton town centre.

He Facetimed while artists N4t4 and Wingy created the brilliant artwork on Dugdale Street over the weekend, fittingly, the mural was undertaken on Saturday, a day synonymous with Star Wars fans as many say ‘let it be the 4th be with you”.

The artwork features images of two stormtroopers, as well as the Death Star and other iconic images from the film. The mural comes just months after another tribute was paid to the local director, albeit a very different one.

The former Higham Lane School pupil was one of 12 to receive civic honors – and is now officially a free man of the borough. The artists created the mural as part of ongoing work through Grit Arts Central, which is based in a former estate agency downtown.

The project is part of the wider ‘Creative Explorers’ scheme. Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council was the only council in the West Midlands to receive £750,000 from Arts Council England to set up a project to boost access to the arts in the borough. As a result, Grit Art Central was launched and through it artists hosted events in the two cities.

It has other projects planned for young people, including workshops and mural projects in the city centre.
