GMB star shares Kate Garraway’s ‘constant pain’

Good Morning Britain anchor Charlotte Hawkin has spoken about how the GMB team came together to support her colleague Kate Garraway following the devastating death of her husband. Derek Draper died aged 56 from prolonged Covid in January.

Speaking to Best Magazine, Charlotte said: “When Kate lost her husband Derek in January, everyone came together to support her. He went through an extraordinarily difficult period”.

Having experienced the pain of losing a loved one herself, particularly her father to motor neurone disease, Charlotte noted that she shares some understanding of Kate’s pain: “When you lose someone you love very much, it’s a constant pain. You wonder what the way forward will be. It’s not about getting over it, it’s about learning to live with it.”

Overwhelmed by Kate’s strength and resilience, Charlotte praised her saying: “It’s going to take time for Kate to heal, but she knows we’re all here for her.”

Derek, who worked for a long time in politics before retraining as a psychotherapist, suffered from Covid-19 in March 2020, finally losing his battle with the disease earlier this year after four years of continuous round-the-clock care, reports the Mirror.

The funeral was attended by dignitaries from both the political and television worlds, including former Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair, current Labor leader Sir Keir Starmer, Susanna Reid, Richard Madeley and Ben Shephard.
