Manchester United are growing increasingly confident of landing Matthijs de Ligt

Manchester United are increasingly confident of securing the transfer of Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt.

It is understood personal terms will not be an issue as De Ligt has advised his agent to prioritize a move to United.

That’s according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, with talks ongoing over the structure of the deal.

Romano provided an additional update in the Daily Briefing column earlier today. He claims Paris Saint-Germain are not in the running for the Netherlands international, despite rumors to the contrary.

De Ligt is looking to rejuvenate his career after emerging as a potential world-beater under Erik ten Hag at Ajax. He then moved to Juventus before Bayern Munich – only to struggle to adapt to both clubs.

One of United’s biggest priorities this summer will be to fix their defensive issues. Ten Hag also need to identify a replacement for Raphael Varane and I think De Ligt would be a good fit.

The Dutch centre-back was once considered one of the best young players in the world. He has not been able to reach these heights since his days playing under Ten Hag. That bodes well for United.
