Man charged with rape after Shrewsbury town center incident at 4.30am

A man has been charged with rape. It follows an incident in the town center in the early hours over the weekend.

West Mercia Police said John Harvey, of Clive Barracks, in Tern Hill – a British Army installation in Shropshire – has been charged with rape. The force said an incident on Mardol, in Shrewsbury, at around 4.30am, yesterday, Saturday, July 6, was reported to them.



The 24-year-old has been remanded into custody. He is due to appear before JPs at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, July 8.

In a statement, police said: “John Harvey, 24, of Clive Barracks in Tern Hill has been charged with rape. The charge follows an incident at around 4.30am on Saturday morning (6 July) on Mardol in Shrewsbury.

“He has been remanded in custody to appear at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday 8 July 2024.”
