Postal services could be on the move if residents plan

Postal services in a Leicester suburb could be on the move if residents back a new plan. The operator of the service at 19-21 Main Street, Evington, could be incorporated into their existing business in Welland Vale Road, more than a mile away.

A Post Office spokesman said the move would see nine more hours of services throughout the week, including, for the first time, on Saturdays. They added that the postmaster believed the move would ensure the “future sustainability of both their business and the postal service” in Evington.

The proposal also includes a complete refurbishment of the Welland Vale Road site to incorporate both businesses. A post office service point will be located at the shop counter, while access to the new combined premises will have a wide door and ramp with a handrail, the spokesman said.

A hearing loop and space for a wheelchair would also be provided. The new location does not have its own parking lot, but spaces are available in the area, according to officials. They said the new site was also served by buses.

The proposed operating hours for the new Post office are:

  • Monday to Friday: 9:00 – 18:00 (currently 9:00 – 13:15 and 13:45 – 17:30)
  • Saturday: 9:00 – 13:00 (currently closed)
  • Sunday: closed (no change)

A consultation on the proposed move has been launched and closes on Thursday 13 June. People can take part on the Post Office Views website with branch code 195217. Alternatively, email [email protected] or call 03452 66 01 15.
