Adrián is leaving Liverpool FC after his contract expires

More exit news today as Liverpool’s other Spaniard announces he will be leaving the club after his contract expires. Back-up goalkeeper and hero of the Supercup, Adrián has officially announced that he will be leaving the club.

Adrián has mostly been relegated to third choice with the advance of Caoimhin Kelleher over the last two seasons. However, his presence in the dressing room was welcomed and appreciated by Jurgen Klopp and the club were actually hoping to keep him as reports noted that he was offered a contract extension not too long ago.

What’s next for the club in terms of the position is interesting. Alisson retains his No.1 spot and there were quotes from Kelleher himself at the start of the break that he might be open to finding a club that would give him more regular game time. The possibility of losing the Irishman is perhaps an additional piece that made the prospect of keeping Adrián a little more attractive. One final piece on that front is that Kelleher was pictured among the first team players to report to the AXA Training Center at the opening of pre-season training.

What’s next for the club remains to be seen, but for now, we can all at least say goodbye to our Spanish goalkeeper. Feel free to leave your favorite memories of Adrián in the comments!
