Ruud van Nistelrooy has already spoken to Manchester United transfer target about a potential deal

Manchester United are set to confirm the appointment of new assistant Ruud van Nistelrooy at the club.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is one of two new additions to Manchester United’s coaching staff, alongside outgoing Go Ahead Eagles coach Rene Hake.

Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad announced that Van Nistelrooy will sign a two-year contract with United.

It is expected to be confirmed on July 8, with the players returning for pre-season.

Van Nistelrooy talks to Zirkzee

Former team-mate Rio Ferdinand has spoken about how Ruud van Nistelrooy will benefit current striker Rasmus Hojlund.

And he won’t be the only forward working with Van Nistelrooy at Carrington.

Manchester United are closing in on a deal to sign Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee.

And according to The Mail, Ruud van Nistelrooy has already held talks with Zirkzee, who will soon sign for the club.

Zirkzee has made Manchester United his first choice, with Caught Offside claiming he rejected interest from Arsenal.

It is unclear whether talks with Van Nistelrooy were a factor, but it is reasonable to suggest he will be attracted by the prospect of linking up with the Dutch legend.

Zirkzee occupies a key team role for Manchester United

Manchester United’s squad number list shows that the club are currently without a new number following the release of Anthony Martial.

Signing a striker to share the load with Rasmus Hojlund is essential, and his big United lead that deal.

Zirkzee is a very different type of striker to Hojlund and the move gives United’s attack more variety and unpredictability.

He is one of a number of bids United have to make and Zirkzee’s Dutch team-mate Matthijs de Ligt is expected to follow him to Old Trafford.
