Wild energy and explosive adrenaline at Kasabian’s homecoming concert – Review – Pukaar News • Leicester News Agency

It was a huge party in Leicester on Saturday night at the city’s Victoria Park. The sun was shining and 35,000 lively music fans gathered to see Kasabian – the biggest band to come out of Leicester.

They took the stage for ‘Summer Solstice II’ – a homecoming concert of epic proportions. As frontman Serge Pizzorno made his entrance, the crowd roared for the spirited hometown hero – a man with a wild look in his eye and plenty of poise.

Before long, the band blasted into one of their most famous hits and the crowd went wild. As Serge stomped and swore his way across the stage, spitting lyrics with ferocious intent, we knew we were in for a great night – and also why this band is so popular in Leicester and beyond. Their songs are anthemic, aggressive and fueled by a raw intensity. It’s hard not to get carried away by the band’s vibe and rebellious energy, which is strong and relentless. With Serge at the helm, you get the feeling that anything can happen – and probably will… (England reached the semi-finals of the European Championship during the gig, beating Switzerland 5-3 on penalties). Of course, this fueled the crowd and the party atmosphere even more…

“This city is an underprivileged city. It’s a night like this that you dream of growing up – nights like this – that bring everyone together,” Serge told the crowd.

Sometimes he would jump into the crowd to greet his fans with ferocious abandon and then instruct them to jump, jump and go “f@*king crazy”. As you’d expect, there were plenty of insults and fans were only too happy to grant and agree to their wild-eyed idol’s wishes.

After the chorus of the last song, “Fire”, (one of Kasabian’s biggest hits), the energy was off the charts and you could feel every reverb under your feet. The band’s drummer, Ian Matthews, drummed with non-stop fervor – making an impressive shift (and then some!)

Adrenaline surged throughout the park – an electric energy that was commanded and controlled by Serge – the charismatic leader who took over from Tom Meighan in 2020 – the band’s former (disgraced) leader.

“Seven billion years have brought us to this moment – right here, now. This is your moment – our moment together. So let’s make this song bigger than it’s ever been anywhere in the world!” he told the crowd.

The band played a mix of older songs plus some from their latest album ‘Happenings’. Whether you’re a fan of their songs or not, you can’t deny that Kasabian are a great band to watch live and an absolute credit to Leicester.

In a statement, Kasabian hailed Saturday night (July 6) as “the biggest night of their lives”.

“Together we took the city out of the stratosphere, which was the biggest night of our lives.

“They were the biggest drops I’ve ever seen, and the ‘Happenings’ songs were outdone. Thanks to all of Kasabian massive for creating pandemonium and all your love and support.”
