‘Trust me’ – Doug King addresses Coventry City’s summer recruitment plans

Doug King has told Coventry City fans that the club are “at the moment” when it comes to building a stronger squad capable of being promoted back to the Premier League next season.

The Sky Blues owner is clearly reluctant to offer too much after instructing manager Mark Robins and his staff to remain tight-lipped about the club’s summer dealings in the transfer window, but has revealed he has already received plenty of calls while showing. to build on the existing team.

City didn’t make the play-offs this time around, largely due to a lack of strength in depth to cope with the fixture schedule and injuries, and King admits it will continue to be a balancing act before Coventry – like all the championship clubs. – continues to operate at a loss.

Asked about the summer transfer kitty, how big a squad will be needed after the release of Liam Kelly, Simon Moore and also the latest on Callum O’Hare (who has been offered new terms but expected to leave on a free transfer), King told BBC CWR: “As I tell our manager and staff, ‘no comment’.

“Look, what will be will be. We have significantly increased our recruitment team. I see their work and what they do. I can see the areas we’re covering now and the depth of analysis we’re going into.

“I’ve fallen off a bit this season, I’ve had a cup run that’s been quite draining, for sure, the way it’s gone. We know all those situations and we want to be competitive. The problem with real depth in anything is that if there’s too much depth, too many players, then that obviously adds to the wage bill and they might not play. The problem is that they can play if you have a lot of injuries.”
