Club confirms key man will join Manchester United ‘soon’ and announce replacement

Manchester United’s move for Rene Hake is just awaiting formal confirmation.

Rene Hake made no secret of his desire to grab his opportunity at Manchester United with both hands, the Red Devils offering the 52-year-old the chance to reunite with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

And, speaking last week, Go Ahead Eagles’ technical director Paul Bosvelt was in no mood to deny Hake a move that might not come around again.

“Now, we would like some clarity,” Go Ahead Eagles’ technical director – and one time Man City midfielder – Paul Bosvelt told Voetbal International a few days ago.

“This is a step that we do not want to take away from Rene. He deserves it very much.”

And, as good as their word, Go Ahead Eagles paved the way for Hake to seal his dream move to the Premier League giants over the weekend, all the while providing some ‘clarity’ of their own.

The Eredivisie overachievers confirmed via their official website on Sunday that Hake ‘will soon make the permanent switch to Manchester United’.

What’s more, the man who led Go Ahead Eagles to an impressive ninth place finish last term has now seen his successor sign on the dotted line.

Go Ahead explains that Paul Simonis will step in as Hake’s ‘successor’.

“With Paul Simonis, we have managed to attract an extremely ambitious trainer to Go Ahead Eagles,” says Bosvelt, the former assistant coach returning to the club and taking the top job. “Paul is also someone who knows the club well.

“We were looking for a trainer who wants to build on the current foundation. Paul can add something extra to that with his personality and qualities.”

Hake was pictured arriving at Carrington on Monday morning alongside the returning Ruud van Nistelrooy. Both will play key roles in Ten Hag’s new look coaching staff, with Hake once again joining forces with a man he has known for almost 20 years now.

“Erik called me and asked if I was open to it,” Hake told ESPN a few days back. “I don’t think I have to explain that I didn’t have to think about it for a very long time before saying yes.

“It’s a great step for me and a great challenge. It’s great to gain experience in the biggest competition in the world.

“I have received many congratulations, but they are not yet fully justified. It is in the offing, but it is not yet officially completed. We are waiting until everything is formally completed.

“You know that all the legal matters have to be checked. You just have to be patient, but it can’t go fast enough for me.”

Ten Hag certainly cannot say he does not have the backing of Man United’s new decision makers.

After confirming that he would be staying on at Old Trafford, Ineos have moved quickly to bring in two coaches Ten Hag obviously rates very highly.

Furthermore, with Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell now playing a key role in the recruitment department, the former Ajax boss will now have the opportunity to focus on what he does best. From playing something of an old-school ‘manager’ role last term, Ten Hag is now very much a ‘head coach’.
