33 new Leicester council homes could be built on the ‘education hub’ site

A plan to build 33 new homes on the site of a former ‘education centre’ in Leicester has been proposed. Demolition of the former Forest Lodge Education Centre, in Charnor Road, was approved last July.

The existing buildings on the site, in the Parcurilor Noi area, were originally built as a nursery, but have been used as a training and conference center in recent years. However, they have not been used since 2018.

Leicester City Council, which owns the land, has long earmarked it for housing. In 2021, it announced that it had received funding to build on the site.

The land has also been included in the council’s draft future local plan – a document which sets out where planning can and cannot take place in the city. The draft local plan is currently being approved.

Now, a plan to build on the land has been proposed. The council hopes to build 33 new homes there, three of which would be bungalows. They will consist of three beds, 14 with two beds, 12 with three beds and four with four beds. All the homes would be owned by the city council and form part of their housing stock if the scheme is approved.

Current access to the site is shared with neighboring Forest Lodge Academy. It is proposed to separate this access and increase parking at the school in the process.

This would make the school site “safer”, planning documents say. The entrance to the new homes would be from Knowles Road, the plans also show.
