Teenage girl seriously injured in crash that closed M40 for hours

A teenage girl was seriously injured in a crash which closed the M40 for hours. Paramedics and police were called to the northbound stretch of the motorway between junction 12 and junction 14 early yesterday morning (July 7).

Police closed the road while medics attended the scene. West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) confirmed that two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance critical care vehicle arrived just before 1am.




“Upon arrival we discovered two patients,” a WMAS spokesman said. “A teenage girl was treated for serious injuries.”

The spokesman added: “While one woman was treated for injuries not thought to be serious, before both were taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire by the same ambulance.”

According to the National Highways, two vehicles were involved in the collision – a car and a truck. It is understood that the central reservation barrier was damaged in the collision and both vehicles had to be recovered from the scene.

All lanes were reopened just before 4:45. CoventryLive has contacted Warwickshire Police about the collision.
