A new era for Nuneaton and Bedworth council as major changes are set to be made

The dawn of a new era for Nuneaton and Bedworth council is upon us, with big changes in just days. On Wednesday evening (May 15), the annual meeting of the mayor will take place at the City Hall.

It will be the first time the council has met since Labor took control from the Conservatives in local elections. The annual meeting of the mayor is not only ceremonial, because the role of the first citizen of the neighborhood is crucial for the council.

The mayor has the casting vote during all key decisions at any council meeting. As the party now in control, Labor will announce who the mayor and deputy mayor will be at the council chamber meeting on Wednesday night.

Council and Labor group leader Councilor Chris Watkins is also due to announce key cabinet members. The Cabinet is responsible for key decisions made by the local authority.

The next meeting will also be the first for the many new councilors who were elected during the May 2 election. It will mark the beginning of their political journey at the local level.

Following the local elections on May 2, Labor has 20 councillors, the Conservatives have 16 and the Green Party two councillors.
