Bristol Rovers notebook: Billy Bodin finds new League One club, Jordan Rossiter begins trial

Bristol Rovers are on the back of a 4-2 win over Melksham Town in pre-season, which has had some good times and not so good times, as we should expect at this stage of the summer.

With eight new signings set to be integrated into the squad and more sure to follow in the coming weeks, plus further departures, it’s a period of transition for Matt Taylor, but a necessary one as he looks to build his squad for the season ahead .

With the start of the League One campaign just over a month away, here are some of the latest Rovers stories and headlines about past players…

Bodin signs for Burton

Former Bristol Rovers favorite Billy Bodin has found a new League One club, signing a two-year deal with Burton Albion. Bodin was available on a free transfer following his release by Oxford United.

Bodin scored nine goals in 41 appearances for the USA as they sealed promotion to the Championship but revealed shortly after their play-off triumph over Bolton Wanderers that he would be moving on after three years at the Kassam Stadium.

The 32-year-old remains a popular figure at Mem after his two-and-a-half seasons in blue-and-white quarters in which he scored 37 goals in 107 games. Rovers were offered the chance to bring him back to BS7 in January 2021 when Paul Tisdale was in charge, but chose to look elsewhere.

“I am very excited. I spoke to the manager about his future plans and the way he wants to play and ultimately that’s why I decided to come here,” Bodin said after his move to Burton was confirmed. “I still feel I have a lot to offer at League One level and hopefully I can add some experience to the squad to help the younger players.”

Rossiter is on trial in Stockport

Jordan Rossiter is on trial at League One rivals Stockport County after leaving Bristol Rovers at the end of his contract. Rossiter was named ‘Trialist A’ for Stockport’s pre-season friendly against Chester but was withdrawn after just 20 minutes due to injury.

Rossiter’s time in north Bristol has been significantly blighted by injury, with knee problems limiting him to just four appearances in his last 18 months, but it is understood this latest issue is just a minor cut to his face.

Stockport play Oldham Athletic at Prenton Park next Saturday, giving Rossiter another opportunity to impress and possibly win a contract. The team behind Dave Challinor at Edgeley Park includes former Rovers managers Clint Hill and Andy Mangan.

Rovers travel to Stockport for their third league meeting of the 2024/25 campaign on August 24 before hosting League One new boys on January 11.

The rovers confirm the ticket structure

Rovers have introduced prices for all home games for the 2024/25 season against AC classified opponents, with adult tickets starting at £15 and going up to £35 depending on the category and relevant area of the ground.

For non-subscription holders, the Gas have issued tickets for five Mem matches: Northampton Town, Cambridge United, Wigan Athletic, Wycombe Wanderers and Charlton Athletic, all designated as Category B fixtures.

This costs an adult fan £20 in the terraced areas, £25 in the South Stand and £30 in the East or West Stand seating sections.

In a statement, Rovers also confirmed that season ticket holders are no longer allowed to move to other parts of the ground without paying the cost of the relevant match ticket. For more pricing information, click HERE
