Leeds United have a pretty thin squad as it stands in pre-season, with another confirmed departure in Charlie Cresswell, but teenagers have been called up to Daniel Farke’s senior squad this month.

Daniel Farke’s Leeds player pool is on the decline at the moment, with revenue far outstripping the rate of receipts at the club.

Only one is confirmed as of now in Joe Rodon, while another is imminent in the form of Alex Cairns, but the departures are much more prominent.

Charlie Cresswell leaves for Toulouse in a £3.8m deal

Charlie Cresswell is the latest exit to be confirmed from Elland Road, leaving on a permanent deal at Toulouse.

He joins the Ligue 1 side in a £3.8million deal, just 11 months after signing a contract extension at Leeds.

His playing time under Farke is largely the reason for his departure, limited to just seven senior appearances all season in 23/24.

Selling Archie Gray for £40m, good or bad business?

James Debayo in first team training for Leeds this week

Amid waves of fringe player exits, there is little strong depth in Farke’s pre-season cohort as it stands.

However, the YEP said three teenagers yet to make their senior debut for Leeds have been brought into the senior pre-season squad.

Midfielder Charlie Crew and Sam Chambers are part of that group, while England youth international James Debayo, 18, is also in attendance.

Debayo played 13 times in PL2 last season for Leeds, predominantly as a centre-back but also played in defensive midfield.

Arrivals required soon at Elland Road

Selling Cresswell made sense for the fee we received, but the lack of depth is a concern that needs to be addressed promptly.

However, there is a solid market for Leeds to replace Cresswell with a more suitable young defender.

However, we simply shouldn’t wait like last season, because we have the chance to get a real advantage over our rivals.
