Royal Enfield electric motorcycle revealed in patent images

Design patents for Royal Enfield’s first electric motorcycle have revealed what the production model will look like, and it appears to be a retro-styled roadster with an electric motor. Based on previous reports and leaked images, Royal Enfield’s first electric motorcycle will be called the ‘electriK01’ and will have a battery pack housed in the chassis, an aluminum one, though the overall design of the bike is definitely retro-inspired.

The front forks have an interesting design that seems to be a modern interpretation of the classic beam fork design of motorcycles from a century ago. A round headlight with circular turn signals, classic teardrop-shaped ‘tank’, an individual saddle and rounded fin design all indicate the electriK01’s retro design lines. The specifications of the electric motor are not known so far, but it seems that there is a chain or belt drive that transfers the power to the rear wheel. It will be interesting to see how Royal Enfield positions its first electric motorcycle.

What is not confirmed at this time is when the production model of the electriK01 will be released. Going by the patent image, the electric Royal Enfield design seems to be production ready. It could be launched this calendar year, given that Royal Enfield has been developing and testing electric motorcycles for several years, with the company’s first admission of its electric motorcycle program dating back at least three years.

Royal Enfield Electric Himalayan Testbed 2

Last year, Royal Enfield pulled the covers off what it described as an electric adventure motorcycle testbed at the EICMA show in Milan. In fact, Royal Enfield boss Siddhartha Lal has been candid in pointing out that the brand is working on electric motorcycle platforms, but is taking a cautious approach to its electric motorcycle lineup. In 2022, Royal Enfield acquired more than 10% of the shares of Spanish electric motocross company Stark Future, indicating a long-term collaboration between the two brands.
