Defeat against Huddersfield leaves them eighth, four points behind Salford. Watson now watched the matches on a loop. Speaking to BBC West Yorkshire Sport, he said they give a false impression of the Super League table.

“The only thing you can get is a misinterpretation of the ranking. We’ve already played Saints twice, we’ll play Wigan twice next week.

“I haven’t played some teams yet. That’s the only thing I don’t like about loop matches, because I don’t see why you wouldn’t play everyone once and then start going into your loop matches, and then everyone again.

“So at the moment the table is interesting because some teams have probably played London two or three times, or Castleford potentially two or three times and managed to win there.

“Whereas for some of the teams they ended up playing St Helens twice or Wigan twice”

Watson believes the Giants are well placed

When asked how he assessed the season so far, Watson said he was generally happy despite two straight losses. He believes Huddersfield will be in the play-off mix at the end of the season.

“If we had started last week I would have said really good, if you start this game, I was good,” Watson said.

“To read right now, I’d say we’re in a decent place.

“We knew we were going to be in a battle, with teams like Leeds and Salford and teams like that in and around the same play-off spot over there.

“We managed to beat Leeds last week. This week we got to Salford, to be fair. But we’ll be in and around that mix.”
