The Fairfax County Park Authority is considering changing the combination of tennis and pickleball courts at Wakefield Park in Annandale.

The Park Authority will host a virtual community meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) at 7pm to present a proposal to convert a tennis court into four pickleball courts.

According to an FCPA press release, Wakefield Park’s two dual-use tennis courts — which consist of two tennis courts and four pickleball courts — are used almost exclusively for pickleball purposes.

The park authority proposed converting one tennis court in need of repair into four pickleball courts and converting the two dual-use courts into tennis courts. Wakefield Park would then have 10 dedicated tennis courts and six dedicated pickleball courts.

Located at 8100 Braddock Road, the park currently has nine tennis courts, two dual-use courts and two dedicated pickleball courts.

After tomorrow’s meeting, the park authority will initiate a comment period from July 9 to August 8 to receive feedback on the proposal.

This is just the first phase of the potential project: A second phase would replace half of a walled practice area with two additional pickleball courts. If approved, the first phase of the plan could be completed by early fall and the second phase by spring 2025.

“The crowns are subject to change depending on the timing of proposal approval and weather conditions during the project period,” the FCPA said in its news release.
