Thirty drunk boys kicked off easyJet flight at Bristol Airport after trying to go to the toilet during take-off

Passengers on a flight from Bristol Airport to Malaga have told of scenes on the runway after the pilot aborted take-off because up to 30 drunken passengers were being disruptive.

Police were called to the departure gate to meet the easyJet flight after the pilot stopped the plane as it was about to take off and returned to the terminal because a large group of young people were refusing to be seated and demanding to use the toilet during take-off.

The flight to the Spanish resort was already delayed by an hour in the terminal and passengers then had to wait another hour or so while ejected passengers were forced to take their bags from the plane and were escorted back to the terminal by the police. One passenger said that when the door closed and the last of the large group left the plane, all the remaining passengers spontaneously cheered.

EasyJet said it was taking the incident “very seriously” and that it “does not tolerate abusive or threatening behavior on board”. A passenger told Bristol Live that the large group of youths were already making noise and disturbances before they even boarded the plane.

“The flight was delayed an hour while we were still waiting in the departure lounge and clearly that gave these guys another hour of drinking time,” said Linda Sweeden, who was returning home in southern Spain, from a visit to Bristol. “They were loud at the gate but luckily I was sitting at the back of the plane and they were at the front. There were a lot of them, apart from the front row for the elderly and disabled, they occupied maybe six or seven rows in the front of the plane, there were at least 30,” she said.

The problems started to get serious as the plane began taxiing to the runway to begin takeoff. “Everyone was seated ready to go, we had the safety briefing and the plane was moving to the end of the runway to take off, then suddenly one of the people at the front stood up.

“A steward asked him to sit down and started shouting, so loud it could be heard in the back, ‘If you don’t let me go to the toilet, I’m going all over the ground!'” Linda said. said he wanted to go too, then another, and very quickly about five or six of them were standing in the corridor, arguing with the stewards, who told them to sit down.

“I don’t know if the flight attendants pressed some kind of button, but suddenly the plane stopped, the engines stopped and suddenly they all stood up arguing. It must have been really scary for the elderly and disabled people in the front row and the stewards did really well,” she added.

The plane started moving again, returning to the departure gate. “The stewards ordered about five or six of these men off but I don’t know what happened but they all got up and got off,” she added. “When the door closed behind them, there was a great cheer of relief. from everyone else, and the captain announced that we would be a little late, but that we would be leaving soon.

“He even joked that there were plenty of seats near the front if anyone wanted an upgrade,” she added.

The passengers on the plane then watched the baggage crews call. They had to remove everyone’s luggage from the plane and the ejected group had to go through and retrieve their luggage again before the rest of the luggage was put back on the plane.

“While we were waiting for all this, ironically, people were allowed to go to the toilet – they allowed families with children to go first and then everyone could. I was waiting there for another hour,” added Linda.

The plane took off and finally arrived in Malaga about two hours after its original scheduled arrival time.

An easyJet spokesperson confirmed they are taking the incident seriously. “EasyJet can confirm that flight EZY7004 from Bristol to Malaga on 11 May was grounded due to disruptive behavior by some passengers. The aircraft was met by police and passengers were offloaded before the flight continued to Malaga.

“Our cabin crew are trained to assess all situations and act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time.

“While such incidents are rare, we take them very seriously and do not tolerate abusive or threatening behavior on board. The safety and well-being of passengers and crew is always easyJet’s priority,” he added.
