The first Twisters reactions arrive ahead of the theatrical release

Twisters lands in theaters next week, and now we have the first reactions to the sequel to the ’90s classic.

Directed by Minari’s Lee Isaac Chung, the standalone sequel sees Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell play rival storm chasers who find themselves on a collision course with multiple storm systems, leading to the fight of their lives.

Following tonight’s (July 8) European premiere in London’s Leicester Square, the lucky few who have already seen Twisters took to Twitter to share their first reactions.

So does Twisters live up to the classic 90s Twister?

The digital spyIan Sandwell raved about the long-awaited sequel: “The story leaves a lot to be desired, but #Twisters absolutely delivers where it counts, with palpable set pieces on a grand scale. Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell are an engaging lead duo. , but it’s Brandon Perea who steals every scene he’s in.”

Hey U Guys’ Scott J. Davis gave Twisters a positive review, writing on Twitter / X: “Didn’t think I’d write this but #Twisters might just be my favorite movie of the summer and one of my favorites of 2024 . Thrilling and exciting in all the best ways – and tons of fun – as well as the fabulous transformations of Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glenn Powell, it will blow the roof off the theatre!”

“If you want a great summer blockbuster this year, #TwistersMovie more than got you covered. Great fun, led by the charming duo of Edgar-Jones and Powell, not afraid to take risks,” he wrote Emily Murray of Total Film. “I’m glad I saw the original first because there are good calls – I think this is a better movie!”

Other early reactions were also overwhelmingly positive, with Twisters being praised as “beautifully shot (and) honest”.

Twisters also stars Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, Sasha Lane, David Corenswet, Daryl McCormack, Kiernan Shipka and Nik Dodani.

Revenant writer Mark L Smith wrote the screenplay from a story idea by Joseph Kosinski, who directed Top Gun: Maverick and the upcoming F1.

Prior to release, Twisters was confirmed to be longer than Twister at 122 minutes compared to the original’s 108 minutes.

Despite the title, don’t expect Twisters to be so connected to the original movie.

“It’s a separate story. It’s not a sequel to the original. But it’s just a real wild ride with some good, fun characters,” Smith explained last year.

“Hopefully we can take advantage of what the original had, because that thing is just iconic. But it’s so cool to have a director like Isaac doing something like this. It’s so out of his norm.”

Twisters is released in UK cinemas on July 17 and in US cinemas on July 19.
