Yellow Thunder Warning issued for Leicestershire with “heavy showers” forecast.

A thunderstorm weather warning is in place for parts of Leicestershire today (Tuesday 9 July). The Met Office yellow warning is in effect from 2pm until 11.59pm.

Leicester is not in the area itself, but parts of Charnwood, North West Leicestershire and Hinckley and Bosworth are. Towns including Loughborough, Coalville and Hinckley could be hit by “heavy rain”, according to the Met Office.




The service said flooding could be possible “in a few places.” He said: “Heavy showers are likely to break out this afternoon and move north, slowly dying out during the evening and early night.

“Many places will miss them, but where they do, there is a chance of localized impacts from heavy rain as well as lightning damage. 10-20mm of rain is possible in an hour or so, some places could see 30mm in a few hours.”

A flood alert is currently in place for Loughborough urban waterways and local tributaries of the River Soar. A flood warning for tributaries in the city of Leicester was lifted at 12.44pm today.
