LIVE transfer news: Man Utd agree terms for De Ligt, Arsenal in talks with Calafiori, Liverpool latest

Man Utd and Jarrad Branthwaite is a transfer saga that feels like it has legs – one of those summery things.

The Everton defender is set to reach huge heights after already impressing at such a young age. However, the Toffees want almost £70m before letting him go and it doesn’t look like they will budge.

United aren’t short of centre-half options, but none, apart from Lisandro Martinez, really inspire. The Argentinian has been a class performer but has also struggled for fitness as the Red Devils struggle without him.

Branthwaite, especially alongside a more experienced defender, could really flourish in Manchester. Not only will landing him be a challenge, but someone has to ask if he needs him.

Well, after a bid for Matthjd de Ligt was accepted, it would appear not. If the Dutchman does move from Bayern Munich, then a move for Branthwaite could well be on hold.

Given their limited budget, spending over £100m on two centre-halves wouldn’t be the smartest of moves.
