Darwin Nunez has fueled talk of him leaving Liverpool after deleting every post on his Instagram of him playing for the Reds.

The Uruguayan moved to Anfield almost two years ago after a standout season with Benfica, which saw a host of Europe’s top outfits eyeing him. He eventually made his way to Liverpool in an £85m deal, but failed to show his quality regularly enough.

Nunez’s inconsistency has been held against him, with the striker’s finishing becoming a major concern. He has scored 33 times for Jurgen Klopp’s side but has weakened his lines in a number of big games this term and with the change in manager there is talk of a move.

The 24-year-old has been the subject of criticism and has only helped the rumors by removing all pictures of himself playing for Liverpool from his Instagram. Only family photos and images of the striker playing for Benfica and Uruguay remain, although his profile picture is a snapshot of him playing for Liverpool.

Nunez has never expressed any desire to leave Merseyside, but the new man in the dugout, expected to be Arne Slot, is likely to review his squad options and go from there. A number of big names at Liverpool, including Mohamed Salah, are set to review their futures.

Nunez and Salah are two of a number of strikers on the books at Anfield. Diogo Jota has delivered regularly when fit, while Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo have shown in flashes that they can produce.

The Uruguayan’s all-round game has often been hailed, but Jamie Carragher recently wondered if it was time to look for a new source of firepower. He told Sky Sports: “I think it’s a question to ask. You want him to do well because there’s so much you like because he gives everything, runs and causes problems and gets the odd goal and gets the odd assist.

“But after two years when Liverpool this season are going for the title and those big games, you need your man to score away at Old Trafford, away at Goodison, in the European game at Atalanta. There is no time to waste, this is not October or November. This is the end of the business.
