Chris Davies can use Celtic connection to sign ‘excel’-prone defender for Birmingham City

Birmingham City are reportedly interested in Celtic wonder Bosun Lawal. According to a report in the Daily Record, Dutch blues band Fortuna Sittard want to sign the highly-rated Irishman.

Lawal impressed during a loan spell in League One with Fleetwood Town last season. Despite Fleetwood being relegated to League Two on the final day, Lawal caught the eye with six goals and two assists in 42 outings.

The 21-year-old has just one first-team appearance for Celtic to his name but has been included in their pre-season plans by manager Brendan Rodgers. Speaking after Lawal played in their pre-season draw with Ayr United, Rodgers said: “I really like Bosun. He is a player, clearly, who has a lot of physical attributes, but what he also has is a lot of football. He’s been on loan and you can see he’s had that experience and he’s got that strength and quality to break through.

Lawal, who is 6ft 2in, is capable of playing in defense or midfield and only joined Celtic from Watford in 2021. Another loan move looks feasible if Lawal does not get a first-team chance at Celtic.

Chris Davies’ relationship with Rodgers, with whom he worked for 13 years at various clubs, including Celtic, could be instrumental in securing a deal for Lawal.

Lawal has also caught the eye of Republic of Ireland caretaker manager John O’Shea, former Blues coach, with his performances on loan at Fleetwood last term.
