Rennes director remains coy about Glen Kamara links

Leeds United midfielder Glen Kamara has been linked with Rennes but new sporting director Frederic Massara has remained coy about the rumours.

Leeds United only added Kamara to their ranks last summer, bringing him from Rangers.

The Finland international has locked down a regular starting spot with the Whites. In total, Kamara played 42 times for the club in all competitions, contributing four assists as he partnered Archie Gray, Ilia Gruev and Ethan Ampadu in midfield.

However, with a number of departures expected this summer, the 28-year-old is among those who have attracted interest. Reports in France have said that Ligue 1 outfit Rennes are keen on Kamara.

Now, while speaking at his presentation, the club’s new sporting director Frederic Massara was quizzed about a potential move for the Leeds United man.

As quoted by Get French Football News, Massara labeled Kamara as one ‘good player’ but he refused to be drawn into talking about individuals. He said:

“He’s a Leeds player, a good player, certainly interesting, but of course we’re interested in a lot of players, some of whom haven’t been revealed yet and could arrive, even quickly.”

Another midfield outing?

As we touched on before, departures from Leeds United are inevitable. However, if Kamara were to make a move to Rennes, it would leave Daniel Farke without two midfielders who were mainstays in his side last season.

Teenage star Gray – who played mainly at right-back – has linked up with Tottenham Hotspur. Ilia Gruev is also said to be on Borussia Dortmund’s radar, although those rumors have died down in recent weeks.

The midfield options are already a little bigger, but if Kamara were to go out, that would only leave Gruev and Ampadu.

Such a result would leave Farke in need of a significant midfield overhaul. Signatures are already needed, but another outing would certainly put midfield signings at the top of his to-do list ahead of the new campaign.

Other assets that can be sold

It’s not just midfield where there are standout players who could be targeted.

Goalkeeper Illan Meslier is highly regarded at Elland Road and beyond, while Ethan Ampadu – who could be a strong contender for the Leeds United captaincy – is another valuable player.

Rumors continued to circulate about Crysencio Summerville’s future. Wilfried Gnonto could also attract serious interest and there are questions over the future of striker Patrick Bamford.

We are still in the early days of the summer window and there are sure to be many more comings and goings at Leeds United in the coming weeks.
