Sheffield United pocketed £1.5m as Daniel Jebbison joins Bournemouth

Sheffield United are set to land £1.5million for Daniel Jebbison as he prepares to join Bournemouth, according to Sky Sports’ Mark McAdam.

Sheffield United have seen a number of players move on when their contracts expire this summer.

The Jebbison Academy graduate is among them, moving on from the Blades after six years with the club despite being offered a new deal. He came through their youth ranks before progressing to the first team, also spending time on loan with Chorley and Burton Albion.

Speculation has been rife as to his next destination, but he is now set to return to the Premier League.

Writing on X, reporter Mark McAdam says the 20-year-old forward is undergoing a medical at Bournemouth. And despite the end of his contract with Sheffield United, Jebbison’s former club are set for a financial boost.

The Cherries and The Blades have agreed a fee of £1.5m rather than let a tribunal decide the amount.

McAdam adds in a separate post that Bournemouth beat Premier League rivals and Serie A and Bundesliga clubs to sign Jebbison.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

A welcome boost

A tribunal would have meant that Sheffield United would receive some kind of fee for Jebbison in the future. However, agreeing a fee with Bournemouth now makes things much simpler.

The saga will not continue and the Blades can reinvest the money without having to wait for the fee to be settled.

Perhaps in an ideal world Jebbison would have stayed. He’s a promising young striker with his best yet and could have a good chance at regular game time with Chris Wilder’s side back in the Championship.

However, few will begrudge him for deciding to return to the Premier League with a Bournemouth side very much on the rise. The fact that the Cherries willingly paid a fee for the out-of-contract player suggests how badly they wanted to complete the deal.

Striker’s situation

A new talisman is expected to top Sheffield United’s signing list this summer.

Cameron Archer returns to Aston Villa, while Benie Traore, Rhian Brewster and William Osula haven’t really convinced themselves they can lead the line. As such, a new talisman or two will be sought, especially now that Jebbison’s fate appears to have been sealed.

If Wilder and co are to have any chance of challenging at the right end of the table next season, they will need a proven goalscorer who can lead the line. Someone who can back them up with a solid return wouldn’t go amiss either, so it will be intriguing to see if any of the existing options can take up that mantle.
