A new community pavilion on Edmonton Green is set to host a summer program of arts, culture and workshops following its recent launch.

The Pavilion on The Green, close to Edmonton Green Station, was co-designed by the local community and architect Fisher Cheng to become the fourth of five local ‘places of culture’ delivered by Enfield Council in town centers across the borough, each designed to support and invest in Enfield’s high streets by hosting arts, culture and community events.

Future plans for The Green development include open space improvements and the potential restoration of the railway arches, if funding is secured. The pavilion on The Green is a temporary structure expected to remain in place for three years.

A range of cultural and community activities will take place at the pavilion throughout the summer and will include the Untold Edmonton Festival, which celebrates and explores Edmonton’s rich and diverse history, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Culture and Public Spaces, Chinelo Anyanwu, said: “The Pavilion on The Green will be a showcase for Edmonton’s extraordinary social and cultural diversity, and I look forward to a packed summer program thanks to the active involvement of the community.

“This initiative is part of a long-term ambition to provide places of culture in all our town centers and provide activities that focus on local culture, learning and wellbeing, which are open to all.”

Pavilion on The Green is designed as an open structure without walls and consists of a covered area of approximately 40 sqm to host performances and community activities. Its roof is open but integrates a shading system to provide cover in the summer. Lighting and a power point are provided to support a wide range of events at any time of the day.

Future activities planned include Zumba with Unite in Fitness; Wellbeing Go with better; Freeflow Yoga with Yoga Rocks; Interactive concert with London Sinfonietta; Inclusive theater workshops from Face Front Inclusive Theater and more.

Other cultural centers supported by the council include the newly renovated Dugdale Arts Center in Enfield Town, the Fore Street Living Room Library in Angel Edmonton and the Arbeit Studios exhibition space in Palmers Green. A number of early cultural interventions are planned for Southgate as part of developing a longer term vision for the town centre.
