Manchester United fans point to damning Cristiano Ronaldo quotes to highlight how club has been left to rot

Manchester United fans believe Cristiano Ronaldo was right to insist the club had been left to rot.

As United collapsed 1-0 to Arsenal, the roof at Old Trafford gave way to torrents of rainwater, perfectly exemplifying how the once grand stadium has been left to fall into disrepair.

It was a point Ronaldo illustrated in his explosive interview with Piers Morgan at the end of 2022, when he hit out at the club, the Glazers and Erik ten Hag before his United contract was torn up.

The veteran striker returned to Old Trafford in 2021, 12 years after leaving for Real Madrid in 2009, and revealed the facilities were exactly the same.

“Nothing has changed since I left,” he said on Piers Morgan Uncensored.

“The pool, the jacuzzi, even the gym, even some technology. Even the chefs I appreciate, nice people.

“I thought I would see new technologies, infrastructure. I saw things I saw when I was 20!”

Fast forward another year and a half and Ronaldo’s words still seem to ring true, with the club still in a worrying state on and off the pitch.

It saw fans rediscover Ronaldo’s old interview and agree with the 39-year-old, who has since signed for Al Nassr after leaving United.

One fan said on social media: “When Cristiano Ronaldo told them the truth about their sporting unit and everything at Old Trafford, all they did was hate him and throw him out.

United have had a miserable season off and on the pitch

“What’s going on at the club is really deeper than any of us can understand!”

Another wrote: ‘Cristiano Ronaldo was perfect when he had that interview with Piers Morgan. Old Trafford is falling apart’.

A third posted: “Cristiano Ronaldo was right all along, Old Trafford is really old and really falling apart.”

This fan said: “There’s nothing Cristiano Ronaldo has said about Man United that hasn’t been proven true. Every United fan owes him an apology.”

And another said: “Ronaldo was right about Utd’s infrastructure. It’s really old Old Trafford.”

United are currently eighth in the Premier League – which would be their lowest ever in the division if they end up there next week when the season ends.

Their 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday was their 14th in the Premier League this campaign, leaving them 32 points clear at the top.

But there could be change in the air after Sir Jim Ratcliffe arrived to take over football operations, hiring Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada as sporting director and CEO respectively.

Dan Ashworth is being eyed for the role of technical director, while several players are already being tipped for transfers this summer, including Michael Olise, Jean-Clair Todibo and Benjamin Sesko.
