There are only 6 empty graves left at Morley Cemetery with no plans to expand

Morley Cemetery is almost full, with no room for cremated remains and only six plots for graves.

Leeds City Council called in the city’s funeral directors last week, confirming that Morley Cemetery has limited burial places left – and “no further expansion is feasible”.

A council spokeswoman said that while an extension to Morley Cemetery is not possible, work is continuing to extend to other existing sites.

She said: “We have recently confirmed to funeral directors that there is no more burial space for cremated remains at Morley Cemetery and that new grave spaces are limited to six, after which no new graves can be created on site.

“This does not affect existing rights holders who can continue to use family graves until they reach capacity.”

The Environment, Homes and Communities Board alerted the council to the increasingly limited number of spaces at the site in Bruntcliffe Road, Morley, almost 18 months ago.
