Manchester United are close to £26m after the deal was agreed

Manchester United have accepted a £26.7m bid from Marseille for Mason Greenwood, but the move is dependent on the forward agreeing personal terms with the Ligue 1 club.

In the deal for Greenwood, United Bank will charge an initial fee of £23.3m, with a further £3.4m in add-ons, while a large sell-on clause has also been included in the deal , which is believed to be around 40% to 50%. %. Greenwood has now been given permission to speak to Marseille and undergo a medical.

Several Italian clubs have previously expressed an interest in Greenwood, with Juventus, Napoli and Lazio all making inquiries about the 22-year-old, but it is Marseille who have emerged as the surprise frontrunners.

Greenwood has not played for United since January 2022 and returned to Carrington on Monday for talks with the club’s new football management team, including sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox, where it was made clear that a permanent exit this season summer was priority.

Marseille supporters protested against the potential signing of the United striker. A statement issued on OM Forum said: “At a time when negotiations for the arrival of Mason Greenwood are reported to be increasingly heated, it seems necessary to explain, once again and before the damage becomes irreversible, why this transfer seems unthinkable given the values displayed by the club and why it would be a red line for many of us that would irreparably damage the passion we have for this club.”

Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 and charges of attempted rape, control and coercive behavior and assault occasioning actual bodily harm were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023 when key witnesses withdrew their co-operation.
