Wiltshire Council is seeking views on its gambling policy

Wiltshire Council is seeking views on its draft gambling policy, which sets out how the council will manage licensed gambling premises and provide clarity for residents, businesses and anyone applying for a gambling license .

Licensing authorities must review their Statement of Gambling Principles Policy every three years and Wiltshire Council’s current policy must be renewed by October 2024.

The Gambling Statement of Principles policy sets out how the council would apply its functions under the Gambling Act 2005, in particular when making decisions on applications for gambling premises, small lotteries and slot machines. club.

The policy will also cover adult gaming centres, family entertainment centres, casinos, bingo venues, betting premises, tracks and traveling fairs. The council also has the ability to issue permits for prize games and unlicensed family entertainment centres.

The policy will specify the information required and the principles to be applied in determining premises license applications including definition of premises, location, duplication with other regulatory regimes, conditions and supervision of gaming facilities. It will also include the council’s principles of enforcement and the principles underlying the right of review.

Wiltshire Council is now consulting on the proposed new Policy Statement on Gambling Principles and the draft policy can be found on the Wiltshire Gambling Council website. The consultation will run for four weeks until Monday 5 August. People can have their say by completing the online consultation survey via Wiltshire Council’s website. Hard copies are also available from Wiltshire Council libraries.

The current Licensing Policy Statement can be found on Wiltshire Council’s website at Gambling – Wiltshire Council.

Cllr Dominic Muns, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: We are responsible as a local authority for licensing all premises used for all forms of gambling except the National Lottery and online gambling. Licensed premises play an important and prominent role in our local communities and we would welcome the views of our residents, or indeed anyone with an interest in licensing and promoting licensing objectives, so that we can formalize our next policy.

The results of the consultation will be reported to the council’s Licensing Committee at its meeting in September.
