Appeal decision Moses Mbye of St Helens has been made

The decision has been made on St Helens’ appeal on Moses Mbye’s ban for this weekend’s derby.

The match between Wigan Warriors and St Helens is always huge and this could prove to decide the League Leaders’ Shield winners as a Wigan win could make it difficult for the Red Vee to catch top spot from them so far . .

Saints won last time but this could be different as they are in bad form.

Mbye was handed a Grade B dangerous contact charge, at the top end of the grade, for late contact on Tex Hoy in St Helens’ shock 8-6 defeat by Castleford Tigers.

It meant St Helens faced having to hand youngster Jake Burns a first Super League start, with Daryl Clark likely ruled out through injury after missing the game against Castleford.

Wigan Warriors players have come under fire this week. Mike Cooper and Luke Thompson were both given Grade B charges – for Head Contact and Dangerous Contact respectively – and fined £250.

However, Brad O’Neill was handed a one-match ban for a Grade B dangerous throw/lift, which will be a big blow to the Warriors ahead of the game – Wigan decided not to appeal it.

The decision has been made and it’s a big one, with St Helens confirming they were unsuccessful in their appeal, which the RFL announced earlier this evening.

They shared their verdict: “Moses Mbye will miss St Helens’ Betfred Super League game at Wigan Warriors on Friday after losing his appeal against a one-match ban for Grade B dangerous contact with an opponent at Castleford Tigers on Friday past”.

Paul Wellens’ side will now have to adjust their preparations accordingly ahead of one of the biggest games in Super League, with the club likely to be without their two key players in Mbye through suspension and Daryl Clark through injury.

Of course, Clark could be fit for Friday night’s game, but the risk of further injury would be a major roll of the dice for Paul Wellens, but with the pressure mounting and only Jake Burns as an admitted prostitute, it’s something to which they could resort.
