Arne Slot already has his own Antony Gordon at Liverpool

Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for Newcastle United striker Anthony Gordon.

The Reds were offered the chance to sign Gordon last month but rejected the offer after it emerged Newcastle wanted Jarell Quansah included in the deal. The St James’ Park club have been under pressure to sell players before the June 30 deadline to comply with the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

After the sales of Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson, Newcastle were no longer under immediate pressure to sell players. However, it remains to be seen whether the Magpies will be forced to allow other players to leave the club before the summer transfer window closes.

For now, Gordon remains a Newcastle player and there is no certainty as to whether or not Liverpool will return with a bid. However, there can be an argument that the Reds may already have a player who is perfect to fill the left-wing role in Arne Slot’s side.

Slot is currently training Liverpool’s squad in pre-season training ahead of his first campaign at Anfield. Due to international competitions, however, some players have not yet returned to the AXA Training Center.

One such player is Cody Gakpo, who is part of the Netherlands squad that reached the semi-finals of Euro 2024. Gakpo will hope to play for his country against England in Wednesday night’s semi-final, with a final against Spain awaiting the winners on Sunday.
