Bevan French has shared his excitement at the announcement that Wigan Warriors will face Warrington Wolves in Las Vegas next season.

The historic clash, which will see the Betfred Super League competition take place in the United States for the first time in March 2025, was confirmed by senior representatives of both clubs at Manchester’s Hard Rock Cafe on Tuesday morning.

Sharing his excitement at the press conference, French said: “You always have aspirations as a player so it’s exciting to be given the platform and opportunity to grow your game.

“It’s something that hopefully years from now you can tell your grandchildren about – that you played your first Super League game in Las Vegas. It’s definitely a privilege.”

The match, which will form a key part of the NRL’s Las Vegas Festival of Rugby, will be the first of four matches that Allegiant Stadium will host in one day – to be followed by two NRL matches and a clash between England Women and Australia Women.

The 65,000-capacity Allegiant Stadium – home to the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders – hosted an NRL doubleheader for the first time at the start of the 2024 season and at the showpiece event, French said: “It was crazy – the atmosphere, the stadium – as you could see it was more freestyle rugby than the normal game.

“It will be great to play in Las Vegas in front of a new crowd in a packed stadium, hopefully.”

On competing alongside some of the best players on the planet in Las Vegas – including the Penrith Panthers who the Warriors defeated in the Betfred World Club Challenge last February – French said: “The gap is closing between the (NRL and Super League) and us” You’re starting to see a lot more younger talent coming through rather than those at the end of their careers. With such a big platform, we hope this will inspire lots of younger British players to pick up a rugby ball.”

Looking ahead to the clash in Las Vegas, French said: “For this to be the first Super League game in the United States means it has to be one of the biggest for sure.”
