Dirt bikes seized in successful Coventry Police operation

OFFICERS in Coventry worked to tackle anti-social behavior and successfully seized dirt bikes.

The North Priority Crime team patrolled the Wood End, Longford, Holbrooks area last week to stop those driving dangerously and recklessly on the roads.

There were six separate sightings of off-road vehicles, all of which failed to stop for officers, including off-road bikes, a dirt bike and a quad bike.

Chief Inspector Dave Amos said: “We are also listening to your local concerns about the anti-social use of dirt bikes.

“Op Prosperity is a targeted operation by West Midlands Police and local partner Coventry which aims to identify and hold criminals accountable for the negative impact they have on the local community.

“The operation uses a variety of tactics, with early intervention and prevention being the lowest form of deterrence, escalating to the use of policing and partnership implementation on those who persist in this type of behaviour.

“The ultimate aim is to reduce all incidents of anti-social use of dirt bikes.

“In seeking to change people’s behavior – we want them to understand the negative impact of their actions.

“This work would not be possible without the community and partners providing information and intelligence about those who commit anti-social behaviour.

This was part of Op Spotlight, a national operation aimed at making our roads safer for everyone.

The operation focuses on the four biggest factors in crashes where people are killed or seriously injured: drink or drug driving, mobile phone use, speeding and not wearing a seat belt – The Fatal Four.

The team impounded three uninsured vehicles, issued five tickets for mobile phone use and failure to wear a seat belt and 66 speeding tickets.

Another suspect was also arrested on suspicion of being disqualified.
