Lara shared her triumph on social media, saying that a simple mixture of garlic and water was enough to deter the unwanted visitors.

In her post, she expressed her excitement: “Something very interesting happened tonight. So I watered my hostas after dark and saw a snail and a slug on their way,” Express reports.

She detailed her experience: “I sprayed the garlic solution in front of them and they instantly turned around. I thought I’d try a little more to see what happened.”

Lara’s impromptu test came back positive: “So I did it again in front of him and on a larger area, and they came back again and avoided the whole area covered in garlic spray.”

It turns out that garlic’s strong flavor is highly offensive to slugs and snails, making it an effective natural deterrent to protect vulnerable plants.

Garlic, a member of the allium family, is well-known for its pest-repelling properties, including its effectiveness against slugs and snails.

Gardeners have the option of using fresh garlic or various other forms to protect their gardens from these leafy predators. Lara also explained how she prepared her potent garlic concoction.

She detailed: “To make the homemade garlic spray, I put a glove of minced garlic in 500ml of warm water and started using it after leaving it overnight.”

“I left it outside where there was no direct sun with the garlic inside and put it in a spray bottle when I needed it.”

“I don’t know how long you could keep it since I’m new to it. But I did mine two weeks ago.”

This mixture can be stored in the refrigerator for several months, so feel free to prepare additional batches for later use.

Echoing the comments section, another gardening enthusiast revealed that the mixture remains potent even after a year if stored properly.
