We are celebrating Workplace Learning Week

Experts from The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Growth Hub are calling on businesses in the county to discover new skills during Learning at Work Week.

The national event, supported by the Campaign for Learning, runs from 13 – 19 May and encourages people to learn something new or take part in training alongside work colleagues.

A workplace report published by LinkedIn revealed that 90% of organizations have concerns about employee retention and providing learning opportunities is a top retention strategy. The report also found that companies with “strong learning cultures” see higher retention rates.

It revealed that 7 in 10 people say learning “improves their sense of connection with their organisation” and 91% of L&D professionals agree that human skills, or soft skills, are increasingly important.

The Open University’s Business Barometer 2023 revealed that one of the major challenges facing employers is skills shortages.

Bethany Allen, Growth Operations Manager, said: At a time when companies are facing increasing costs and pressures, we know that workplace learning can often fall to the bottom of the list.

“However, a well-planned skills program is proven to be a key indicator for retaining team members, boosting morale and improving productivity.”

Growth Hub experts invite companies to call them so that together they can get under the skin of their business to discover the skills needed – now and in the future – and train them to get results.

Ian Watkiss, Growth Hub growth connector, said: “It’s always great to sit down with companies to reveal their strengths and weaknesses, celebrate and reflect on achievements, while having a frank discussion about what can be improved.

“For those looking to grow, being able to see clearly where the next skills priorities are is often key and we welcome the opportunity to support where we can.”

The Growth Hub also has free workshops on a variety of topics including intellectual property, sustainability, carbon literacy, inclusion and more.
