Dosunmu resigns after multiple drink-driving and class A drug charges

Lambeth Council has announced that chief executive Bayo Dosunmu is stepping down following recent local difficulties.

In a brief statement released Wednesday, the communications team said:

“Bayo Dosunmu has resigned as Chief Executive of Lambeth Council with effect from Monday 15 July 2024.

Fiona Connolly is currently acting chief executive and the Council will soon begin the process of recruiting a permanent chief executive.”

Brixton Buzz reported last month that Dosunmu had been arrested and charged with driving and drug offences.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that he was arrested on Sunday, June 23, after failing to stop at the scene of the accident.

The Met said Dosunmu was charged with possession of a Class A controlled drug, failing to stop after a road traffic accident, driving over the alcohol limit and using a motor vehicle in a public place without insurance to third parties.

Dosunmu will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, August 1.

Dosunmu was appointed chief executive for Lambeth in April 2022. The appointment was made by Labor councilors Claire Holland, Matthew Bennett, Jacqui Dyer and Rezina Chowdhury, along with Green councilor Nicole Griffiths. Three candidates were interviewed.

The commission of inquiry from the City Hall met on July 9 behind closed doors. Restricted documents that have been released have confirmed that Lambeth has an interim chief executive in Fiona Connolly. Her usual job is executive director of adults and health at Lambeth.

Lambeth is expected to use headhunters again as the search for a new chief executive begins.
