Ange Postecoglou – Tottenham boss press conference on Manchester City, Arsenal and the title

Ange Postecoglou holds his press conference on Monday afternoon ahead of Tottenham’s final home game of the season as they welcome Manchester City to the Premier League.

The clash between the two teams is quite a big one as it presents the odd scenario that if Spurs can get a positive result against Pep Guardiola’s side then they would hand over the initiative in the title race to their local rivals Arsenal. However, there is also the scenario that if Liverpool win or draw at Aston Villa on Monday night, Tottenham retain their chance of finishing fourth and a place in the Champions League on the final day of the season should they overcome City.

Despite all their recent success, Guardiola’s men have a poor record at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and have lost every Premier League game at the ground, failing to even score a goal in those matches. January’s 1-0 FA Cup win was City’s first goal and win in any competition at the stadium, which opened half a decade ago.

Postecoglou will be asked about that feeling among many fans that for once they would not be upset if Spurs lost this game to prevent Arsenal from winning the Premier League.

He will also provide an update on Richarlison’s calf injury following his scan, as well as fresh news on any issues identified in Saturday’s win over Burnley.

Our Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold is among those asking Postecoglou questions. Scroll down for his latest updates from the press conference at Hotspur Way.

More from Postecoglou

I’ve been part of one of the biggest in the world for the last two years with Celtic and Rangers and I understand the rivalry, but I’ve never understood and never will understand if someone wants their team to lose. That’s not what sport is about. It’s not what I like about the game. What I love more than anything in the game is the competitiveness, challenging yourself to beat someone and come out on top. Anything other than that has nothing to do with the sport. It has nothing to do with me. If other people want to treat it that way, that they get pleasure from other people’s misery, that is not how I have lived my life and how I perceive my role. My role is to bring success to this football club and no matter the proportion, whether it’s his two colleagues or 99% of the people you know, I know 100% of Spurs supporters want us to win, to be successful and win trophies. That is without a shadow of a doubt and our win tomorrow night will help bring joy to 100% of Spurs supporters.

Postecoglou about Tottenham fans wanting their team to lose

If you go on social media then 99% of them will (want Spurs to lose) but please don’t tell me this is your world. If it is, you need counseling. I understand the rivalry, but I will never understand someone who wants to lose their own team.

People are allowed to feel the way they feel, but I have been consistent and strong in my belief that it is important for this club to get where we want, not looking for a silver bullet, it is hard work, perseverance, quality, not dawn false. and you know what real success looks like. Anything in between, bragging rights, doesn’t make sense to me. Tomorrow we have a game that we want to win.

Do you think most of our fans don’t want us to win? I don’t see it that way, I think the fans inside the stadium will create the same atmosphere they always do.”

Postecoglou on Richarlison and Spurs team news

Not good, he will miss the next two games. Nothing serious. Bissouma has unfortunately picked up a knee injury and will miss the last two games. Other than that, everyone who was available is available.
