Environmental Services Officers job with Sheffield City Council

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Services Officer, to work within the Street Scene & Regulations Services.

Environmental Services is a growing department within Sheffield Council serving both the public and private sectors in an array of environmental duties.

Job Overview

– Working Monday – Thursday 8am while 4pm and Friday 8am while 3:30pm.

– Our Environmental Services Officers (2) work mobile.

– A fully equipped van will be provided along with all the required personal protective equipment you need to undertake the work.

– IT and communication equipment are provided to complete your duties.

– Training program options provided during your career, and you will be registered to an industry recognized CPD scheme.

– There are opportunities for flexible working schemes.

– On top of that we offer a great paid annual leave allowance of 25 days moving to 30 after 5 years’ service.

Key requirements of the role –

– Applicants must hold the Royal Society of Public Health level 2 certificate or equivalent (BPCA Level 2)

– Full clean driving license

– Experience in pest control and other environmental duties.

– Computer and IT skills

Desirable requirements –

It would be desirable that the applicant has some relevant industry training certificates such as COSHH, health and safety, working at heights, pest related training from industry providers.

Duties & responsibilities within the role will include:

– To provide a focus of knowledge, technical expertise, and advice for the Council and private sector with specific reference to pest control.

– To undertake clearance/disinfection of noxious, verminous, or contaminated articles and premises including faeces and sharps

– Prepared to work flexibly including outside normal working hours.

– Willingness to work in unpleasant & noxious conditions.

– Able to move, lift & carry bulky & heavy items.

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes/skills in the following areas:

– Good communication skills both written and oral.

– Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.

– Ability to manage and prioritize workloads, work to deadlines and achieve service targets.

– Ability to interpret legislation and statutory guidance.

– Ability to analyze and interpret data and information.

– Able to develop funding and contracts.

– Understanding of equality issues.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
