The cheapest places to rent, as the Black Country was called the most affordable for housing

A recent report ranked local authorities in the county based on average rental prices this year.

The chance for first-time buyers to get an affordable mortgage is increasing as house prices rise and the cost of living crisis looms – prompting many to head into the rental market.

The rent report, produced by lending company BLG Development Finance and Online Marketing Surgery, determines the best and worst areas in the West Midlands to rent.

Their key findings, which used data from the Office for National Statistics, show that Dudley has the lowest average rent price this year at £761 a month, followed by Wolverhampton at £765, Walsall at £789 of pounds and Sandwell with £828.

A spokesman for BLG Development Finance said: “Despite rising rent prices, it is good to see Dudley trying to reduce its rent prices. This affordability not only eases the financial pressures on tenants, but also creates an attractive environment for developers. By leveraging development finance. , there is a significant opportunity to invest in Dudley, supporting the growth and revitalization of the community.”

The most expensive places to rent are outside the Black Country – they are Solihull at £1,154 a month, Birmingham at £980 and Coventry at £926.

Liam Edwards, who worked on the rent report for Online Marketing Surgery, added: “With rent prices at a high level with house prices, it’s difficult for people to move in with their partners anyway. The price in Solihull is very about the least”.
