Bristol MP Carla Denyer ‘deeply disturbed’ by discovery of human body parts on Clifton Suspension Bridge

Bristol Central MP Carla Denyer spoke of the “disturbing” discovery of human remains at the Clifton Suspension Bridge, saying she was “deeply disturbed” by the incident.

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed they were called to the bridge shortly before midnight on Wednesday following reports of a man with a suitcase acting suspiciously.




By the time they arrived, the individual had already left, followed by a cyclist, but two suitcases, both believed to contain human remains, were located in the area. Police have now launched a manhunt to locate the man who left the suitcases.

Carla Denyer, co-leader of the Green Party and MP for Bristol Central, responded to the incident on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “I am horrified and deeply disturbed by the discovery of human remains at the Clifton Suspension Bridge overnight. Disturbing events like this are deeply disturbing to all of us who call Bristol home and are proud of our city.

“Thank you Avon and Somerset Police for your swift action. I am in contact with the authorities and will do everything I can to ensure a swift and thorough investigation.”

Her statement comes after aBristol Commander Vicks Hayward-Melen said: “This is a very disturbing incident and I fully recognize the concern it will cause our communities. The investigation is being led by our Major Crime Investigation Team and involves specialist officers and staff from across the organisation. .

“Our immediate priority is to find the man who took the suitcases to the bridge, identify the deceased and inform next of kin. Specialist officers are ready to provide them with any support they need.”
