Liam Farrell has expressed the importance of Friday night’s derby against St Helens at The Brick Community Stadium.

Looking ahead, Farrell said: “Derbies are always intense games no matter what. It won’t be the big plays that will win the game, it will be all the small efforts, so it’s important to start well to give ourselves the best chance of winning. We had a tough game against Leigh which set us up and I’m looking forward to this one who I’m sure will step it up again.”

Of St Helens, Farrell said: “Saints losing their last two games will add more motivation and intensity to the game as I’m sure they will come here wanting to put in a performance against us. It’s a very big game for them, but it’s also a very big game for us.”

Sharing his memories of the derby, Farrell said: “I had some really good moments and some really bad moments. Derbies are the games you looked forward to playing as a kid. This isolated game is incredibly important for both cities, fans and clubs.”

On his winning try against St Helens in 2011, Farrell said: “I thought it was going to die after a few years but it stuck. It’s a very special moment for me, but obviously a lot of fans in the city love him too.”

Speaking about Dean Bell, who will be the guest of honor at tomorrow’s clash, Farrell said: “Dean brought me into the scholarship system so I will always be very grateful that he gave me the opportunity. He will always be respected as he captained the club during a remarkable period and I look forward to seeing him on Friday night.”

On the announcement that Wigan Warriors will face Warrington Wolves in Las Vegas in 2025, Farrell said: “It’s really exciting and all the lads were delighted when we found out. We’ve always been a fan of trying to expand our game and it will be a very special occasion for us playing in Las Vegas. Hopefully we can get a lot of Wigan fans on board, I’m sure it’ll be one for the memory bank once I’m done playing.”

Tickets for Friday night’s match with St Helens remain available to purchase from The Brick Community Stadium Ticket Office and online HERE.
