These 4 Wigan Warriors players are ready to go – as it stands

Wigan Warriors have been the standout side in Super League so far this season. The Cherries and Whites sit four points clear at the top of the table, having lost just two games all season and have a game in hand on their rivals as well.

Matt Peet’s side are not expected to be too busy when it comes to recruiting for next season, but there will be some personnel turnover and they have some tough decisions to make. Here’s a look at the four players who could be set to leave the club at the end of the season as they approach the end of their current deals.

Willie Isa

The 35-year-old has been with Wigan since 2016 and has now made over 200 career appearances for the club. In that time he has won three Super League rings, a Challenge Cup, two World Club Challenges and two league leaders’ shields.

It’s been a career for the second half and whatever happens at the end of the season, Isa will probably be one of the club’s most reliable overseas players ever.
Isa can still do it at the highest level, his recent performances for Wigan underline that, and it looks like he will be given time to make up his own mind at the end of the campaign.

Mike Cooper

Cooper will turn 36 by the end of this season, and it’s fair to say he’s heading toward the end of what has been a fine career. He is out of contract at the end of the season and it remains to be seen if the club believe he can go again.
The former Warrington man has been with Wigan since July 2022 and penned an extension with the club until the end of 2024 at the end of last season. Like Isa, given his age and status, much may depend on how Cooper feels as the campaign draws to a close.

Ryan Hampshire

Hampshire has been a bit of a fixture since his arrival at the club in 2023, making just five appearances this season. He did, however, score three tries, including a brace against Castleford Tigers in April.
The 29-year-old gives Wigan versatility and depth when needed, but it remains to be seen whether the Warriors will have space for him in their squad going into next season.

Jacob Douglas

Douglas made his first-team debut for the Warriors last month when he lined out for the Cherry and Whites against Warrington and was included in the squad when Wigan faced London Broncos a few weeks ago. As such, the winger is still early in his career and Wigan have the option to extend his contract by a further 12 months if they see fit.
He will do his best to prove his worth and stick around the Brick Community Stadium then the rest of the season.
