Sheffield pub Dog & Partridge raises over £1,500 for S6 Foodbank with General Election party

Traditional Trippet Lane boozer Dog & Partridge welcomed the outgoing Tory government in style last week, launching a grand slam with a charity raffle hosted by Bipolar Abdul and raising vital funds in the process.

Punters were invited to toast the end of what has been – let’s be honest here – the most miserable political period for the country, with over 20 independent local businesses and artists donating raffle prizes up for grabs. These ranged from restaurant and bar vouchers to artwork by Reyt Good Illustration and Rosie Wilson.

The award-winning venue, which was recently crowned ‘Best Traditional Pub’ by exposed readers, has also donated the proceeds for a special election beer, ‘His-Tory’, to S6 Foodbank’s chosen charity.

“His-Tory” (geddit?) got a treat and proceeds went to S6 Foodbank.

The final result was £1,490 raised, plus a further £130 donated via Instagram. Use of food banks has increased under 14 years of Conservative government, with anti-poverty charity The Trussell Trust reporting that the number of food parcels distributed has risen from 61,468 in 2010-11 to 2.54 million in 2020-21.

S6 Foodbank was set up by local churches and community groups in 2011. Recent figures from the organization showed that 68,937 food parcels were distributed to people in Sheffield in the past year, of which 26,737 went to children.

“We just want to say thank you to all the independent businesses in Sheffield who supported our fundraising,” The Dog’s Sorcha Smith told Exposed. “And all the people who have donated, whether it’s their time, expertise or money! Sheffield is really cool.”
