The council referred the matter to Cornwall’s planning, development and recreation division.

In mid-June, Amanda Brisson, acting chairwoman of the police board, wrote to Mayor Justin Towndale and aldermen, saying it is common practice for municipalities to create the rules governing taxi fares, vehicle safety, insurance requirements, minimum quality standards for service. , and jurisdictional entry restrictions. She asked the city to draw up those rules and not the police commission.

Municipalities are already required to meet the integrated accessibility standards of the Ontarians with Disabilities Act to ensure that accessible taxis are available in the community and that operators charge the same fare to all passengers.
