Liverpool have received an “amazing” response to the transfer of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United

Former Newcastle United striker Andy Cole says a move for Anthony Gordon to Liverpool this summer would be “amazing”.

And Cole believes any deal would require the Reds to move someone else before they can complete what he believes would be a shock transfer in this summer window.

Liverpool were offered Gordon last month as Newcastle tried to balance their balance sheet ahead of a potential breach of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

The deadline for that was June 30 and the Reds were contacted by the Magpies about a potential deal for the England international before breaking off talks, with Anfield officials believing they are well stocked in the extended areas.

Newcastle also wanted to include Jarell Quansah as part of the deal. But Liverpool had no interest in discussing a move for a promising centre-back whose form has taken him to the top of the England squad ahead of the European Championship in Germany.

Cole, who played for Newcastle for two years between 1993 and 1995 before moving to Manchester United, says the deal for Gordon is now dead as his old club no longer have to fix the imbalance of PSR’s problems.
