Coventry HMV Empire erupts as England reach Euro 2024 final

The crowds at HMV Empire in Coventry erupted after England secured a place in the finals of Euro 2024. Fans cheered on the Three Lions as they faced the Netherlands last night, Wednesday 10 July.

Supporters celebrated late into the night after Villa striker Ollie Watkins sealed England’s victory with seconds remaining of normal time. He fired a stunning strike into the bottom left corner in the 90th minute to send the Three Lions into the final against Spain.

Fans at HMV Empire on Hertford Street were seen singing, dancing and cheering after watching the action, with the final in Berlin on Sunday 14 July. They could be heard chanting: “Football Is Coming Home”.

After the celebrations, manager Gareth Southgate turned his attention to the highly anticipated final. He said: “We came here to win! We are playing the team that was the best team in the tournament and we have one less day to prepare, so it is a huge task, but we are still here and we are fighting.

“I think we’ve got a team that’s going to be together for a period of time, so it’s not like this is a team that’s at the end of a cycle. We give people amazing nights, I think we’ve given our supporters some of the best nights in the last 50 years, so I’m extremely proud of that.

“I’m delighted if everyone at home feels the way we do and the fans in the stadium felt, but from our point of view, we’re not done. We have the biggest test possible to prepare for and we came here to try to win the tournament and that is still our aim.”
