Man United are learning the £30m price tag for their next transfer after signing a secret weapon

Manchester United are close to securing the signing of Joshua Zirkzee and could also move for his Bologna team-mate Dan Ndoye.

United and the Serie A side have agreed a deal for the Netherlands international forward to move to Old Trafford and he will fly to Manchester on Thursday evening ahead of his medical on Friday.

The move for Zirkzee will cost United €42.5m, with payments spread over three years. Had he opted to trigger his £34m release clause, he would have had to pay it in full.

Once that move has been completed, attention will turn to where United will strengthen their side going forward and that could start with Ndoye.

The Swiss international impressed at EURO 2024 and, alongside Zirkzee, helped Bologna qualify for this season’s UEFA Champions League, and his agent Fahd Adamson confirmed United’s interest in his client.

“It’s good that Manchester United are interested in Dan and it makes sense somehow,” he said.

“United is owned by INEOS and Dan has already played for the other INEOS-owned clubs in Nice and Lausanne. He received countless WhatsApp messages from English clubs after the quarter-final against England. Let’s see what comes out of them.

“We need to discuss Dan’s future with him and his family. We need to weigh things up to prevent him from making the wrong career move.”

However, with Arsenal closing in on a deal to sign Riccardo Calafiori, new Bologna manager Vincenzo Italiano, who replaced Juventus’ Thiago Motta after leading Fiorentina to two consecutive finals of the Europa Conference League, will not be keen to lose another key player.

“After Calafiori and Zirkzee, I don’t think Bologna will give up a third starter”, Manuel Minguzzi, editor at Tuttobologna, told the Manchester Evening News.

“The management would not want to give him up and Ndoye is liked by new coach Vincenzo Italiano. In any case, we are talking about £25-30m.”

United have to decide whether a move for Ndoye is worth taking such a chunk out of their transfer budget, but if they decide to go down that route, the call to link back to Zirkzee in the Premier League can only help their case .

“Ndoye and Zirkzee are close friends and in Bologna they often went together to Virtus Bologna Euro League basketball games,” added Minguzzi.

“I don’t know if Joshua will also claim for a transfer of Ndoye. Bologna would not want to give up Dan.”

United are expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer and beyond their interest in Ndoye, they have also been linked with the likes of Leny Yoro, Matthijs De Ligt, Jarrad Branthwaite, Manuel Ugarte, Dani Olmo and Ivan Toney.
