Ryanair makes announcement at Birmingham Airport as airline bosses say it is ‘significant’

Ryanair has made a major announcement regarding its presence at Birmingham Airport. The budget airline was the first low-cost airline to operate on the site and has seen extensive growth since then.

Today, July 10, Ryanair bosses announced that the airline has carried more than 30 million passengers since it began operations to and from Birmingham in 1987 – and further expansion is to come.

Its flight schedule at the airport has grown from a single route to Knock in Ireland to a 50-destination operation connecting 17 countries in Europe, with seven aircraft based in Birmingham. Ryanair calculated it as a $700 million investment and supporting more than 2,400 local jobs.

This summer, Ryanair confirmed it was operating its “biggest ever schedule” to Birmingham, with more than 400 weekly flights on 50 routes, including nine new destinations.

Spokeswoman Jade Kirwan said: “We are delighted to celebrate more than 30 million Ryanair passengers passing through Birmingham Airport. This significant milestone echoes Ryanair’s continued growth and investment in Birmingham.

“This summer, Ryanair is operating the largest schedule to/from Birmingham Airport, including Ryanair’s new summer routes to Agadir, Berlin, Budapest, Marrakech, Paphos, Paris, Seville, Tirana and Valencia. We look forward to carrying millions of passengers. Low fare Ryanair flights to/from Birmingham for years to come.”

Earlier this week, we told how Birmingham Airport bosses explained the secret to reducing long queues and stressful waits – and it looks really simple. Travel chiefs said passengers now faced an average wait of 22 minutes to enter the terminal and get through security – a significant drop from recently reported waits.
